Alf Majors, Linne’ Lodge #57
Alf John Christer Majors has been a member of Linne’ Lodge #57 for 49.5 years! During that time he has served as Chief, Vice Chief (twice), and Trustee (over 15 years).
Alf’s contributions to the club are extensive. “If you need to know, ask Alf!” Alf oversees groundskeeping, lawn and flower maintenance, and always makes sure the bar is staffed and well-stocked. Alf leads one of Linne’s largest events: WinterFest. This 3-day event held in January includes two dinners and Sunday Brunch, bands and dancing, and a variety of winter sport activities. Alf keeps 13 committees coordinated to successfully pull WinterFest off every year! Alf has participated in Drill Team for 18 years, has helped coordinate the annual Mother-Daughter Banquet, and is chairman of Linne’s Junior Viking program. Alf helps make sure the Christmas season is a time of celebration, helping with club decorations and events. On top of his time, Alf also contributes his treasure as a donor to the lodge funds for scholarship, language camp, burn camp, and veterans.
Alf’s life as a Viking is not limited to club activities: he also represents Linne’ as a community volunteer for Summer Celebration, Muskegon Air Fair, OctoberFest, Pub Pedal, Art in the Park and more.
The Vikings is a family affair for Alf, his wife Dianell, their children and grandchildren, and his parents and sisters. Alfred Majors (Alf’s father) was selected as Viking of the Year in 1998. Alf’s parents are from Finland, and he made sure his family knew and practiced Swedish and Finnish family traditions. In addition to their full-family participation in the Viking Community, Alf coached his son’s hockey team for seven years, never missed his daughter’s high school soccer matches, and enjoys outdoor motorsports with the love of his life.
Alf will receive his official recognition at the next Vikings Convention. Since it has been postponed due to COVID-19, a few of the local Vikings gathered at Linne’ Lodge to present this well-deserved honor!
Thank you, Alf, for all you do to strengthen the Independent Order of Vikings. We are proud to recognize you as the 2021 Viking of the Year!
